Newport's David Pallett has failed to make the PDC World Championship outright for the first time in three years.

The Shropshire thrower came into 2016 buoyant, after reaching the second round of the worlds. He'd previously been beaten at the first hurdle by Adrian Lewis.

But he now sits 49th on the Order of Merit and won't get another chance to add to his tally, having not qualified for the televised European Championship or Players Championship finals.

The 26-year-old had a go at securing a place for the Grand Slam and World Series through the qualifiers, too, but lost a board final and in the last 16 respectively.

The Players Championship and European Tour non-televised 'floor' events are now at an end, concluding the Pro Tour Order of Merit.

Pallett finished joint 71st on the Pro Tour and joint 105th in the Players Championship, with Phil Taylor among those tied with him in the latter. He was 57th in the European Tour standings.

He should win another Pro Tour card to continue for 2017, though, with a buffer of £21,750 of prize money separating him and the cut-off placing of 64th.

Pallett can also try his luck with the World Championship qualifier at Wigan's Robin Park Centre on November 28.

His last action came at the Barnsley Metrodome at the weekend, where the Players Championship was wrapped up with two tournaments along with the qualifiers.

Pallett lost in the first round of both Players Championship competitions, 6-2 to Kirk Shepherd and 6-1 to John Part after the double header.

He fared better in the Grand Slam event, but eventually lost 5-3 to Andrew Gilding. Another victory would have put him within a game of securing his spot.

Pallett had beaten Devon Petersen and Steve Brown, both 5-3. He then tried to nab a spot at the World Series through a qualifier.

First round opponent Wayne Jones withdrew through illness, before seeing off Wes Newton and Vincent van der Voort 6-5. He subsequently lost 6-2 to William O'Connor.
