The Bridgnorth-based star returned to the Isle of Man for the Junior Classic TT on his trusted 72 Ripley Land Racing K4 Drixon Honda machine.

Rutter, 44, had opted not to pit for the entire four-lap race around the 37.73-mile circuit but was eventually overtaken by winner Michael Dunlop during yesterday's race.

The Ulsterman was down by more than 30 seconds on Rutter after stopping for fuel on his second lap but gradually made up the gap on his Black Eagle Racing 350cc MV Agusta triple, passing his rival on the final lap.

The pair circulated together with Dunlop just taking the line honours by 10 seconds.

Rutter said: "I rode the wheels off the Honda but couldn't do anything about Michael.

"I saw Michael's face smiling at me on the last lap. It was a brilliant last lap and an awesome race."

Rutter also finished fourth in yesterday afternoon's Superbike race, which was won by Dunlop.
