On July 13, 11-year-old Daniel Galloway and 13-year-old Elle Humphries are in Portugal to represent Great Britain in the European Biathle Championships.

Cameron Minifie and Louise and Jenna Edmunds also head to Sheffield for the British Summer Championships and ASA English Home Nations.

Galloway and Humphries qualified with top-six places in the preliminary competition at Millfield School in May.

Galloway won silver in Portugal in 2015 and warmed up for this year's event – biathle is a continuous run-swim-run which comes under the umbrella of Pentathlon GB – with a bronze in the Hetton Lyons triathlon.

Humphries has worked her way into the Shropshire teams for cross country and middle distance track since finishing fourth in the British schools' biathlon championships in March.

Attention turns to the pool for the three girls who will head to the British and English Championships. Minifie and Louise Edmunds will compete after ranking in the top 24 in their age group.

Minifie tackles the 200m butterfly at the British Championships and the 100m event at the English Championships.

Louise Edmunds will swim the 50m breaststroke at the British and 100m breaststroke at the English, where she will be joined by sister Jenna who races in the 50m breaststroke.
