The hosts fell 24 runs short at Shifnal Cricket Club after restricting the New Road professionals to 146-9.

Leach was delighted with some of the performances from his men but frustrated they could not quite pull off a famous victory.

"There were some really positive performances from us and I'm delighted with that, while being a touch disappointed that we came up a little bit short," he said.

"We were only 20 or so off and it shows the fine margins.

"Overall we have got to be happy with ourselves because they have a good team with world-class players and we can take a bit of confidence into the Cheshire game on Sunday."

A hat-trick from Shropshire's Sam Griffiths was the highlight of the evening and Leach praised the bowler's perseverance.

He added: "I'm chuffed for him, it's a hell of an achievement and he'll remember that for the rest of his life.

"He's a cracking lad and it showed a lot of character from him to come back and keep plugging away because he had been hit for a few boundaries."
