England women's cricketer and 'Chance to Shine' ambassador Tammy Beaumont inspired over 80 females to give cricket a go in Shropshire.

The 24-year-old, who has played 58 international games, visited schools in Church Stretton and Ludlow.

That's as well as helping to run a cricket session with a group of rounders players based at cricket clubs in the Shrewsbury area.

The visits were aimed at increasing interest in women's and girls' cricket across areas of the county currently without a women's or girls' club team.

It's clear to see that the schools involved had plenty of talented and enthusiastic cricketers in their ranks.

The Shropshire Cricket Board's development officer Ian Gregory said: "We were once again delighted to have a player of Tammy's calibre visit the county.

"It was fantastic to see how well her coaching sessions were received by the schools.

"We must thank the PE teachers and support staff at Church Stretton Secondary, Ludlow Secondary and St Lawrence Primary for welcoming Tammy and also helping to engage their students with the sport."

The evening session saw a group of current rounders players from Bomere Heath CC, Beacon CC and Shrewsbury CC take part in a fielding and striking session at London Road Sports Centre.

Gregory added: "The ladies who took part in the session showed an eagerness to learn from Tammy, despite their sport not being the same one.

"Cricket and rounders involve a number of very similar skills.

"There's a lot that can be gained from cricket clubs and rounders clubs in the county working together to inspire more females to get active."

Beaumont will be back in Shropshire on November 10. Although the itinerary is not yet finalised, she will again visit primary and secondary schools before a club session in the evening.
