Worfield are Kwik off the mark to land an impressive double

The Shropshire Primary Schools Kwik Cricket County competition proved to be a smash hit.

More than 1,250 boys and girls took part in the event which was held at various cricket clubs and schools throughout the county.

Worfield Endowed Primary School enjoyed a double success as they lifted the Year 6 and Year 5 titles.

Worfield's Tom Cowell from Worfield was named man of the match as his side beat Claverley Primary School by one run in the Year 6 final at Wellington CC.

The 16 winners and qualifiers from their local festivals battled it out for glory with Worfield edging home by one run in the shoot-out for silverware.

Shrewsbury CC hosted the 11 qualifiers in the Year Six Girls' final and there was a local winner with St. George's Junior School from Shrewsbury coming out on top.

They beat Whitchurch Junior School by 29 runs in the final with Katie Walker (St Georges) selected as woman of the match.

Worfield Endowed claimed their second success in the Year Five competition with Shrewsbury CC again staging the the finals day.

They overcame Pontesbury Primary School by 12 runs to lift the cup.

The Schools taking part in the Year 6 Girls and the Year 5 finals were presented with their trophies and medals by Whitchurch CC's England Women's Academy squad member Evelyn Jones.
