Match report: Newtown 1 FC Copenhagen 3 (agg 1-5)

Classy Copenhagen ended plucky Newtown's Europa League adventure with a polished second leg display at Latham Park to complete a 5-1 aggregate passage into the third qualifying round.

Arriving with a two-goal advantage from the first leg, the Danes effectively wrapped up victory before half time through Marvin Pourie's header and a Nicolai Jorgensen penalty.

Pourie notched his second soon after the interval to make it 3-0 on the night, but the Robins showed plenty of resolve as Tom Goodwin gained a deserved consolation.

Naming an unchanged side in front of a sell out 1,372 crowd, Newtown were quick to settle as Jason Oswell's overhead kick was clutched by keeper Stephan Anderson while Matty Owen's cross skidded menacingly across the goalmouth.

Copenhagen, however, were looking lively on the flanks as they moved the ball well, and sounded a warning with striker Nicolai Jorgensen heading straight at keeper Dave Jones.

And the Danes struck a telling blow on 28 minutes when, after a spell of patient pressure, Kasper Kusk supplied the cross for Pourie to head in from 12 yards despite claims the German striker had strayed into an offside position.

Now needing to score four times to progress, the Robins faced a mountain to climb, and the tie was effectively over five minutes before the break when Jorgensen coolly tucked away a penalty after Kieran Mills-Evans had tripped Benjamin Verbic in the box.

The part-time hosts were in no mood to surrender, though, and almost pulled one back moments later when Oswell's strike rattled the post after good work from Stef Edwards.

But Copenhagen made a brisk start to the second half and were 3-0 up on 51 minutes when Pourie pounced for his second goal after the impressive Delaney's long pass had been flicked on by Peter Ankerson.

The visitors continued to pose a threat with their high tempo, Verbic bringing a good save from Jones while Pourie chipped against the bar.

But Newtown showed plenty of fight despite the deficit, and got a goal their efforts deserved on 70 minutes when Craig Williams' free kick was flicked on and Goodwin tapped in from close range.

The Mid Wales men showed plenty of spirit right to the final whistle, but it was the Danes who will progress to the next round where they will meet FK Jablonec of the Czech Republic.
