Wellington Under-13s turned on the style as they were crowned Shropshire Cricket Board Lady Taverners county champions.

Some powerful batting mixed with some mature bowling and fielding saw the girls to the title with a perfect record.

In the finals festival held at Shrewsbury School, Wellington recorded victories over Whitchurch, Alberbury and Worfield.

But they were pushed all the way by the other sides who helped set a high standard throughout the competition.

Wellington's Ellie Micklewright dominated with the bat, scoring 66 runs without being dismissed in the three games.

She was ably supported by Amy Griffiths, who was the competition's leading wicket taker, with four dismissals at an excellent economy rate.

Alberbury's Keely Jones topped the run scoring table, with 77 runs from three games to help her side clinch the silver medal.

The board's cricket development officer Ian Gregory said: "We were really impressed by the efforts of all four teams who were a credit to their clubs and coaches.

"There was some high quality cricket played, in particular from a batting perspective with a number of players scoring quickly and hitting lots of fours and sixes.

"'We wish Wellington the very best in the regional finals, and hopefully they will follow up their success of 2014."

The Under-17 girls just came up short in a tight-fought County Cup clash with Warwickshire.

Laura Jones bagged three wickets as Warwickshire were restricted to 152-9 from 45 overs in the clash at Quatt CC.

Emma Hudson led Shropshire's reply with 47, but the hosts fell four runs short as they were dismissed for 148.

Milly Home (20) and Rachel Chesters (17) were Shropshire's other main contributors with the bat.

Meanwhile, Shropshire Under-14 boys suffered a comprehensive nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Buckinghamshire.

Lewis Evans top scored with an unbeaten 24, batting at No.9, as Shropshire were dismissed for 95.

Freddie Furnival and Connor Steele were the only other Shropshire batsmen to reach double figures in the face of some impressive bowling.

Bucks then made light work of the chase as they eased home in 19 overs for the loss of one wicket.

And Shrewsbury School Under-15 have booked a shot at MidlandsT20 glory.

The talented youngsters produced a power-packed batting display to ease past Willam Farr School from Lincolnshire and secure a place in Finals day at Repton School.

Shrewsbury batted first in the quarter-final clash and piled up an impressive 187-7 from 20 overs.

Dan Hume plundered 62 off 39 balls and gained solid support from Lysander Adair (37), Tom Brunskill (33) and Ludo Litchfield (21 not out).

In reply, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals with Brunskill 2-9, Rob Ford 2-14 and Oliver Hodges 2-7 leading the way as William Farr were bowled out for 81.

Ellesmere College Under-15s were edged out in their bid to reach the National Schools Championship Finals day.

A batting collapse proved costly as Ellesmere went down by four wickets at Manchester Grammar School.

Ellesmere had progressed to70-2 thanks to Sam Ellis (31), Ben Beaver (22) and Ben Gibbon (31 not out).

Their innings then fell apart as they tumbled to 122 all out with two overs of their 40-over allocation remaining.

But some excellent bowling and fielding from Ellesmere then reduced Manchester to 56-6 with Harry Newton (2-16 off eight overs) and Tom Furnival (2-6 off seven) impressing with the ball.

However, a superb seventh-wicket partnership of 67 saw the hosts home and secured a trip to Oakham School for the National Final on July 7.
