Adam Brown's heroic final leg steered England to their first ever Commonwealth victory in the 4 x 100 metres medley event ahead of favourites Australia. Adam Peaty and Adam Barrett were also gold medal heroes for England.

England set a Games record of three minutes 31.51 seconds to win by seven tenths of a second.

Walker-Hebborn said: "We had a strong chance of gold there and I just wanted to do it for the boys.

"I'm proud to be part of that relay and to break the record as well."

Former Market Drayton swimmer Rachael Kelly had starred for the England women's medley relay team which breezed through the heats.

She was replaced by Siobhan-Marie O'Connor for the butterfly leg in the final. The quartet bagged silver, edged out by Australia.

They won bronze with 160.095, just over a point and a half behind silver medallists Australia.

England's women clinched gold, bagging a double for the nation as the men's team, which included Lilleshall-trained Kristian Thomas, of Wolverhampton, also topped the podium in Glasgow.

Hockenhull, from Horton, is a member of Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club.
