The county hope to unveil Sharp's replacement in the next few days after the former Yorkshire left hander joined the backroom staff at Worcestershire.

Sharp has taken on a batting coach role at New Road and will also coach the second team and academy players.

Shropshire chairman Toby Shaw said the process of appointing a successor was under way.

He said: "What we are looking to do is we are trying to give an opportunity to perhaps a younger coach, somebody who is perhaps learning their trade a bit.

"And we had identified a couple of people that we think might fit that role well."

Sharp, 55, was Yorkshire batting coach after five seasons in Minor Counties cricket for Shropshire following the end of his first-class career in 1990.

He was previously a cricket development officer in Shropshire and was director of cricket at Giggleswick School in Yorkshire before joining the county in 2012.

Shropshire begin the new season with a MCCA Trophy game against Lincolnshire on May4.
