The International Centre in Telford is hosting the European Archery Festival, which starts today and finishes on Sunday.

Organisers say it will be the biggest archery event ever held in Europe.

The event includes a large scale exhibition featuring a wide range of archery and non-archery based organisations.

The archers will be competing for more than £20,000 in prize money and £100,000 in contingency and the event has seen a purpose-built temporary stadium constructed to reflect the one that was built at Lords during the Olympics.

Telford is the last chance for competitors to pick up Indoor Archery World Cup ranking points before the fourth stage and Final in Las Vegas at the beginning of February.

This means that Telford as a first-time host of a World Cup stage has attracted the world's top archers, as it replaces Nimes on this year's calendar while the French town concentrates on organising the World Indoor Championships.

This afternoon's schedule included two of four ranking rounds.

The other two will be shot tomorrow morning, before the eliminations take place in the evening.

Sunday's schedule will leave only finalists remaining, and bronze and gold medal matches will be shot in an arena.
