Former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Joe Hart is in the race to land one of European football’s top awards.

Former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Joe Hart is in the race to land one of European football’s top awards.

The 25-year-old’s performances in helping Manchester City to a first ever Premier League title propelled him on to a 32-strong list for UEFA’S best player in Europe award.

Hart is joined by some of the biggest names in world football – as well as Bangor City’s Lee Davies.

The 27-year-old winger is rubbing shoulders with the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo on the list with the award ceremony to take place on August 30 in Monaco.

The long-list was drawn up by one selected journalist from each UEFA member country voting for their five best players, and even a single nomination was enough to earn Davies a place on the long-list.

Davies said: “I can’t get my head round what’s happened.”
