The weekend in tweets
Monday 6th February 2012, 8:27AM GMT.
Find out what the footballers themselves had to say on Twitter after a weekend of Premier League action in wintry conditions:
Jamie O’Hara
Great result for us today, real good team performance, glad to be back bring on the fightback
— Jamie o’hara (@mrjamieohara) February 4, 2012
Midfielder Jamie O’Hara had something to celebrate on his full return to the first after Wolves fought back from a goal down to win 2-1 against fellow strugglers QPR at Loftus Road.
Joey Barton
Feel some sympathy for @djibrilcisse1 can understand his reaction after 2 broken legs in the past
— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) February 4, 2012
Badboy QPR midfielder Joey Barton stood up for team-mate Djibril Cisse’s reaction after he was sent off for grabbing Roger Johnson by the throat after a late challenge from the Wolves defender. Djibril himself apologised to QPR fans after the fame for his “stupid” reaction, but condemned the tackle that he thought could have caused another leg break.
Emmanuel Frimpong
Having scan on monday hopefully aint serious like my cruciate last year.three times I’ve been frimponged in the last week #deeeeench loool
— Emmanuel Frimpong (@Frimpong26AFC) February 4, 2012
Frimpong, adjective. To tackle hard in the game of football. In extreme cases, ‘Frimponging’ can cause injury to the victim. Example: Wolves’ on-loan midfielder keeps getting Frimponged, since he made up the term on Twitter.
Youssouf Mulumbu
My worst game ever. Sorry for my team mates
— Youssouf Mulumbu (@mulumbuofficial) February 4, 2012
Twitter saw an all too rare bout of honesty from a Premier League footballer here as Albion’s Youssouf Mulumbu admitted to playing his “worst game ever” as Roy Hodgson’s side slumped to defeat at home to Norwich.
Michael Owen
@piersmorgan pundit maybe but please, you, an ‘expert’. Do us all a favour.
— michael owen (@themichaelowen) February 5, 2012
Barely a week goes by without a new chapter being added to the feud between Piers Morgan and Michael Owen, Morgan and Rio Ferdinand, Morgan and, well anybody that plays in the red of Manchester United. Owen wins this round though – it’s no wonder the Americans are none too keen on their soccer if they’ve got to put up with Piers Morgan at half-time. . .
Rio Ferdinand
I got booed by the cfc fans today,….well done guys thanks for inspiring me & the lads! That’s like fuel to me! #TeamSpirit
— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) February 5, 2012
After Man United came back from three goals down to draw at Stamford Bridge, Rio Ferdinand revealed that boos from the Chelsea fans inspired his team’s fightback. It was a shame for his team that they didn’t inspire him to mark David Luiz properly from Chelsea’s corners. . .
Charles N’Zogbia
Football goes up and down, massive challenge for me. What doesn’t kill u make u stronger !! I have learned from it!
— Charles N’Zogbia (@CharlesNzo) February 5, 2012
Villa winger Charles N’Zogbia reacted to receiving more abuse on Twitter after Villa’s defeat to Newcastle on Sunday. Having retweeted disgruntled fans calling him a “disgrace” and a “sulker”, the support started to flock in and the Zog seemed to have more fans on his side. Mission accomplished. For now.
