Olympics selection delight for Shropshire physio
Tuesday 17th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Shropshire physiotherapist Sarah Partington is preparing to offer medical attention to the world’s top athletes after being recruited for this summer’s Olympic Games.
Partington, who serves as physio for Midlands Four West (North) rugby club Market Drayton, is one of a select few chosen to be a first responder from an initial list of around 250,000 applicants.
She will be work across the Olympic venues in London providing medical care as and when required for spectators and athletes.
“I sent off an application, got invited to an interview in Coventry and have just been told that I have been successful,” said Partington, who is also volunteer co-ordinator and social secretary at the rugby club.
“It’s a voluntary post but it’s very exciting and it will be a fantastic experience being involved in the Olympics.
“I’ve been told that I will be in London at the various stadia there. Some days it will be as part of medical team for spectators, on others I will be in the athletes’ area.
“It will be nice to be pitch side or trackside and hopefully I will get an opportunity to see some of the action.”
Partington has worked for Market Drayton on a voluntary basis for five years. Her day job is as a physiotherapist at Derwen College in Oswestry.
