Mike Davies has sensationally resigned as director of football at The New Saints, after 18 months at the Welsh Premier club.

But the 32-year-old stressed that his decision has no connection to recent results, which have seen TNS lose to Bangor City and Afan Lido to relinquish pole position.

Davies, who recently became a father, said it was a tough decision to step down from the Oswestry club.

“I think I can go with my head held high,” said Davies, who took over management responsibilities at the club when Andy Cale also resigned at the end of April 2010.

“I have led the club to runners-up spot in the Welsh Premier, the first-ever European victories against Bohemians and Clifton-ville, and two League Cups.

“I thank the club and Mike Harris (MD) for the opportunity.”
