The New Saints chase a prized double in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier when they tackle third placed Llanelli in front of the live TV cameras at Park Hall tomorrow (3.45pm).

Having already defeated their title rivals once this season, the leaders look for more of the same as they bid to tighten their grip at the top of the table.

They go into the encounter in fine fettle on the back of an 11-match unbeaten run, which includes 10 wins, and director of football Mike Davies is delighted with the recent surge that has taken his side four points clear.

“Llanelli are definitely going to be up there at the end of the season, they’ve got a great squad, so we’re under no illusions it’s going to be a very difficult task,” he said.

“But we’re on a good run, competition for places is fierce and we’re feeling confident.

“Credit has got to go to the lads, they’ve worked hard and trained really well and we’re taking the training onto the pitch which is what it’s all about.”

Tomorrow’s encounter marks the start of a crucial eight days for the full strength Saints who travel to fellow full-timers Neath next Wednesday before welcoming defending champions Bangor City to Park Hall the following Sunday.

Davies would dearly like a repeat of earlier in the season when his side collected nine points from those games.

“It’s a massive three games for us,” he said.

“We stepped up to the challenge earlier in the season, and managed to get nine points which was a terrific effort.

“We’ve got a small lead at the top, and it gives us the opportunity to pull away, but of course other teams will see it as a chance to peg us back.”
