Ashley Chesters fight to push on
Friday 23rd September 2011, 10:49AM BST.
Shropshire amateur golfer Ashley Chesters was today facing a nervous conclusion to the first stage of qualifying school for the European Tour.
Only the top 25 after today’s fourth and final round at Wychwood Park in Crewe will qualify for the second stage in Spain in December – and 21-year-old Chesters teed off in a tie for 24th. He followed up rounds of 72 and 71 with a disappointing 76 yesterday for a three-over-par total.
Ludlow amateur Oliver Farr was in need of a superb final round after a 74 yesterday following on from two 75s for an eight-over-par total and 57th place, while Bridgnorth’s David James was two shots further back.
