Newtown’s 9-2 thrashing at Llanelli was McNally’s worst day
Monday 12th September 2011, 12:30PM BST.
Newtown boss Bernard McNally bemoaned his “worst day in football” – after seeing the Robins thrashed 9-2 at Llanelli.
The result sent the Latham Park men spiralling to the foot of the Welsh Premier table.
And it left former AFC Telford United chief McNally – who also enjoyed a successful playing career with Shrewsbury, West Brom and Northern Ireland – puzzled by what he had seen.
“It was the worst day in footballing terms for me personally as a coach or manager,” he said.
“We completely lost our way and it was a real wake-up call for the players,” he added.

Will always think fondly of Bernie so I hope he’ll bounce back.
I see he qualifies the ‘worst day in football’ line later on by adding ‘..as a coach or manager.’ Little doubt surely about
his worst day as a player ; he was in the WBA team humiliated 4-2 by Woking in 1991.

Perhaps he can empathise with the Wem Town team who lost 10-1 to Newtown in a Welsh Amateur Cup match that I attended about 55 years ago! My dad was the Wem Town captain on that occasion and I was still in short trousers! The fish and chips on the way home were the best part of the day!
