Welti-based Chloe Hughes swept the board at the Deloitte Shropshire County Closed Tennis Tournament – winning no less than four titles.

The Tourmanent ended on Saturday, rounding off last week’s thrilling action by players aged eight to 18 at Shrewsbury’s Welti Centre.

Shropshire LTA spokeswoman Lisa Beards said: “Supporters were treated to some explosive finals, not suprisingly as some of the competitors have reached the country’s top 50 in their individual age catagories.

“Throughout it all, a high level of sportsmanship was demonstrated and some wonderful talent witnessed.”

First Chloe tasted singles success, winning the 14 and under girls when beating Jessica Oldham in the final. Then she raised her game to be crowned 16-and-under champion, seeing off Olivia Jones.

Not content with ruling the roost in the singles, Chloe then won two doubles events – the 14 and under girls doubles with the beaten singles finalist Jessica Oldham.

Then to round off a fantastic week Chloe teamed up with Ben Kirk to win the 14 and under mixed doubles.

As a result of the fantastic achievement on court Chloe’s Great Britain ranking is now up to 33rd.

Other multiple winners were Ben Kirk who was crowned 14 and under boys singles winner, beating Charles Richards in the final.

And the Welti-based player also continued his winning run the doubles. First he teamed up with Tom Thelwall-Jones in the 14 and under boys doubles to follow on from the mixed doubles success in the 14 and under mixed doubles win with Chloe Hughes.

Newport-based Kyle Fellows also won three titles and boosted his GB ranking to 15th.

He was crowned 16 and under boys champion, beating Edward Gibbs. He also won the 18 and -under boys singles title as well, Like Henley losing out in the final.

Kyle also won the 16-and-under doubles, teaming up with beaten singles finalist Edward Gibbs.

This years event was sponsored by Deloittes who were represented on finals day by Jane Loughran.

Beards also added the tournament management commitee and Tennis Shropshire – along with Referee Kath Lovel – ensured the succesful smooth running of the event.

There were also special awards made to players who have competed most frequently and represented their county.

The awards went to Tom Thelwall-Jones, Sam Chapman, Ben Kirk, Matt Lee, Sam Taylor, Anna van der Stap, Jessica Oldham and Chloe Hughes.

12 and under boys singles: Winner Samual Chapman; runner-up Tom Thelwall-Jones.

12 and under boys doubles: Winners Jordan Evans and Tom Thelwall-Jones; runner-up Samual Chapman and Matthew Jones.
