Shropshire under-15s are cricket champs

Shropshire’s under-15s have crowned a stunning cricket season with victory in the County Cup final.
The youngsters defeated Hertfordshire by 72 runs at Kibworth in Warwickshire to retain a title they also won back in 2009.
They reached the final last year as well, only to see the match rained off.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” said team manager Graham Woollatt.
“They have served Shropshire well and next year they’ll be into the under-17s, who play in the A division, so they’ll be tested at the highest level.”
Shropshire lost the toss and were put into bat by Hertfordshire, racking up an impressive 250 from their 50 overs.
Wellington’s Ross Aucott led the charge with a superb 86, while Oswestry pair Joe Carassco and Joe Clarke made 68 and 39 not out respectively.
It was a total that proved too much for their opponents, Hertfordshire being bowled out for 178 as they tried to keep up with the run-rate.
There were plenty of run-outs, while Shrewsbury’s Henry Blofield took 3-22 and Luke Miles impressed with a tight spell that reaped 1-21 off eight overs.
“They all did well but Luke came on at a difficult time when Hertforshire were putting their foot down and he turned them off,” said Woollatt.
“He was very economical.”
