TNS set to take on Prestatyn

It may have been a poor start, but The New Saints boss Mike Davies insists there’s no panic ahead of tonight’s home clash with Prestatyn (7.45pm).

A disappointing opening draw with Bala was followed by a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Port Talbot, leaving the Saints still chasing their first win.

Although early days, it represents a below-par start as the Oswestry-based side attempt to reclaim the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier crown this term.

But Davies is not unduly alarmed, and is backing his side to quickly get their campaign back on track, starting with tonight’s Park Hall encounter against Prestatyn.

“It’s not the start we wanted but there is no concern on my part and I’m confident we can put it right,” he said.

“I’m looking for a reaction. I’ve got confidence in the players, and they’ve got confidence in themselves.

“We’ve had chances to win both games, but not taken them and conceded some bad goals. And we’re not punishing teams when we get chances at the other end.”

Defender Phil Baker returns to duty after the birth of his son, but winger Chris Williams is ruled out with a knee ligament problem.

Saints usually produce convincing performances against Prestatyn – but Davies is taking nothing for granted, saying: “We will treat it with caution, as we always do, as teams are getting better in this league.”
