Marston’s Shropshire Premier League round-up
Friday 26th August 2011, 11:51AM BST.
There’s precious little Bank Holiday cheer on for Broseley as they face up to almost inevitable relegation in the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League.
Tomorrow’s home clash with fellow strugglers Newtown looked to be a pivotal one in their battle to beat the drop.
And victory in that one followed by more of the same at Much Wenlock might have given them renewed hope going into the final four games.
But a 25-point deduction imposes this week for failing to fulfil their last two second team fixtures means that they are now all but down.
Four sides are to be relegated ahead of next season’s merger with the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire League – and defending champions Madeley are one of the four firmly in the firing line.
But the Telford side have a real opportunity to try and claw their way closer to safety this weekend, with games against the sides either side of them in the table.
They start with a home clash against Albrighton, who are one place above them in the first position of safety but reeling from their own three-point deduction in the week for failing to fill in umpire report sheets.
And Madeley will then go to Allscott on Monday, the Sugarmen currently one place lower but still hoping to find a way out of trouble themselves.
“We’ve got to go and make the effort to get a result in these two games,” said Madeley club captain Andy Lloyd.
“We’ve got to be positive now, give our all and see where it takes us.
“There’s still a lot to do but if we can get something out of both games this weekend then we might have a chance.”
At the top of the table, Reman Services will be looking to hammer home their advantage in the race for the title.
They start the weekend with a trip to Newport in what will be a repeat of last Sunday’s Chronicle 20/20 Knockout final. Reman won that one but will know their hosts are one of the league’s most dangerous sides on their day.
The Shrewsbury side then play host to Shelton in a Bank Holiday Monday derby clash.
Quatt are the only side with any sort of realistic chance of catching Reman – and they will need positive results at Bomere Heath tomorrow and at home to Worfield on Monday in order to stay in the hunt.
