Jubilant Shrewsbury today set their sights on matching the legendary class of 1983 – by becoming National Knockout champions.

The London Road men produced a brilliant display to romp to an eight wicket triumph over the West Indies Cavaliers at a packed London Road yesterday.

Ryan Bishop’s unbeaten 85 helped Shrewsbury chase down 192 for victory with seven overs to spare and spark celebrations which continued in the county town until the early hours of the morning.

They now face a final against Cambridge Granta – who beat Ealing in the other semi-final yesterday – at Derbyshire’s County Ground on September 17 for the right to be crowned the best in England.

It is only the second time a Shropshire team have reached the final, with Shrewsbury also running out winners 28 years ago when the final was staged at Lord’s.

And skipper Ed Foster is hoping last year’s Birmingham League premier division champions can write another notable chapter in their success story.

“It was a brilliant performance all the way through and a great day,” said a thrilled Foster, who was the oldest player in the Shrewsbury side at 26 while 15-year-old Ed Barnard was the youngest.

“We lost in the semi-final two years ago and to go one stage further is brilliant.

“But now we are there, we want to go there and win it, match the 1983 team and put this team on the map in terms of the club’s history.”

Shrewsbury dominated against a Cavaliers side who included former England aces Uzman Afzaal and Alex Tudor, ex-Pakistani spinner Saqlain Mushtaq and past Shropshire player Dominic Williamson.
