Alan Palin backed to ‘do the business’ in bowls final

Shropshire’s ‘Gang of Four’ bowls selectors have pulled off a major surprise for next month’s Crosfield Cup final – by handing a surprise recall to Alan Palin.
The tenacious St Georges performer has been named in the away leg for the Endsleigh County Championship final against Yorkshire on Sunday, September 4.
Palin has been on reserve all season but will be part of the 12-man team carrying Shropshire’s hopes at Newsome, at the same time as the home leg will be played at Old Shrewsbury.
“It was a tough call but we have plumped for experience,” explained Mick Jones, one quarter of the selection panel.
“It’s a big occasion to be involved in and Alan was an away winner when we won the cup in 2009 and hopefully he can do the business again.”
Meole Brace’s Michael Dulson is the unlucky man left out of the team which defeated Potteries in the semi-final.
His team-mate Darren Wellings has been moved from the away to the home team as Shropshire eye national glory for the second time in three attempts.
“The home players are happy with Old Shrewsbury and the squad looks strong,” added Jones.
“It’s all on the day – but we are good enough to win it.”
