The Shropshire links with one of Britain’s most successful National Hunt trainers continue to spread.
Jon Glews, the managing director of Shropshire-based Proactive Personnel, has agreed a deal to remain as head sponsor of Donald McCain’s yard for a fifth season – and now also backs stable jockey Jason Maguire,
McCain, who is based near the Shropshire border at Cholmondeley, and Maguire tasted Grand National success wioth Ballabriggs at Aintree in April.
And the pair came within a whisker of a famous Champion Hurdle triumph at the Cheltenham Festival with Peddlers Cross who – along with dual-purpose performer Overturn – carries the colours of Shropshire owner Tim Leslie.
“It’s great to carry on our agreement with Donald and his yard,” said Glews, who has at least part ownership of 10 horses in McCain’s yard. “He is the top trainer in the north now and one of the best in the country and all the big owners want to get their horses with Donald.
“When I first got involved five years ago, Donald wasn’t really known and it was all about his father Ginger.
“But Ginger was very shrewd in giving Donald the right grounding and sending him down to Newmarket.”
A delighted McCain added: “Proactive’s sponsorship is very important to us and much appreciated.”
