Shropshire’s last Minor Counties game in venue switch
Saturday 13th August 2011, 3:26PM BST.
Shropshire will bring down the curtain on their Minor Counties Championship campaign at Oswestry – after their final game was switched.
The county side face Wiltshire in their last three-day game of the year, which gets under way a week tomorrow.
It had originally been scheduled to take place at Shrewsbury’s London Road ground but has had to be switched because of the host club’s success in the National Knockout.
Shrewsbury will now be playing host to West Indian Cavaliers in the semi-finals f the prestigious one-day competition that day, leaving county officials to find a late alternative.
And Oswestry club captain Mike Robinson revealed: “They contacted us on Thursday to ask if we could help them out.
“We had a quick word with the groundsman, because he is the most important person in these situations, and were happy to accept.
“It’s an honour for the club and we always really enjoy staging county games.”
Shropshire are hoping to end what has been a frustrating season on a high note, having lost their last two games away at Cornwall and Devon.
Their only three-day victory came in a rain-affected opener against Wales, while there have been draws with Herefordshire and Oxfordshire.
