Nick Woodbridge frustrated in Olympic chase
Monday 1st August 2011, 11:19AM BST.
Shropshire modern pentathlete Nick Woodbridge will have to start again in his bid to make the London Olympics in 2012.
Team-mate Jamie Cooke finished fourth at the modern pentathlon European Championships in Kent to all but book his spot on the Olympic team.
The top eight finishers in the men’s final at Medway Park achieved the qualifying standard for the London Games, and Cooke is now firmly in pole position to claim one of the maximum of two places available to British athletes.
Beijing Olympian Nick Woodbridge finished a disappointing 26th while team-mate Sam Weale did not even make the final.
Woodbridge had been in superb form and won the bronze medal at the World Cup Final three weeks ago.
