Shropshire scored a huge hit by staging a superb All England bowls finals – and there was even a ‘Shropshire’ winner too.
Welsh bowler Mike Riley, who used to play for Ifton in the Furrows Shropshire Premier League and is now playing for the St Martins club in the Wem League, was crowned the king at Meole Brace on Saturday.
He won a stunning final 21-19 against Wayne Ditchfield, North Lancs & Fylde’s giant of a 20-year-old, that had everything to bring the curtain down on more than 10 hours of first class action at the Shrewsbury venue.
Shropshire’s proud British president Barry Jennings proclaimed: “It was a first class final to end a perfect day.”
