Shropshire golfer Ashley Chesters has qualified for the matchplay stages of the English Amateur Championship.
The Hawkstone Park plus two handicapper finished 51st of the 288 starters after two rounds of strokeplay qualifying at Woburn to reach the knockout phase.
Chesters followed up his opening round of 76 on the Duchess course on Monday with a level-par round of 72 on the Marquess course yesterday to end on a total of four-over-par.
But he was handed one of the toughest possible draws in today’s first round matchplay encounter as he was pitted against England international Darren Wright from Rowlands Castle in Hampshire.
