Ed Foster left frustrated after Shropshire draw
Wednesday 13th July 2011, 7:00PM BST.
Shropshire captain Ed Foster has admitted his side’s hopes of lifting silverware this season are at an end after another near miss.
For the third time in eight Minor Counties Championship matches, Shropshire were forced to settle for a draw after coming within one wicket of victory.
Oxfordshire clung on at 317-9 in pursuit of 388 for victory at Whitchurch to leave the hosts having to settle for 11 points from a draw instead of the 23 they would have claimed for taking the final wicket.
That has left Shropshire in sixth place and 35 points behind leaders Berkshire.
“I would have thought that was it,” said Foster on his side’s title chances.
“The aim was to try and finish in the top three or four and that is still the target. We will try and win our last three games and see how high we can get.”
Despite failing to force victory in the 99 overs available on the final day, Foster was philosophical.
“I’m gutted we haven’t won it but it wasn’t as if we put down a hatful of chances,” he added.
“The lads gave it everything and it just wasn’t our day. We beat the edge plenty of times, a few umpiring decisions didn’t go our way and Oxfordshire dug in.”
