Cricket: Important days for Shropshire’s Minor Counties hopes
Saturday 9th July 2011, 1:26PM BST.
Shropshire’s cricketers aim to keep alive their Minor Counties Championship hopes in Whitchurch over the next three days, writes JAMES GARRISON.
Ed Foster’s side begin their western division clash with Oxfordshire in sixth place in the table knowing nothing less than victory will keep them in touch with current leaders Berkshire.
“We can’t look any further than this up-coming game against Oxfordshire,” said Foster.
“We know if we can get the win we will pick up 20-odd points and that will put us up there in the mix with three games to go.
“We have got a strong enough side to win the games we have got left this season.”
Shropshire won their opening clash at Wales –although it was reduced to a one-day game due to rain so they only collected half points – and came within six runs off seeing off Herefordshire at Bridgnorth last time out before having to settle for a draw.
A squad of 13 will be whittled down to 11 in the morning but paceman Neil Saker, who has played First Class cricket for Kent this season, is pencilled in for his debut at Heath Road.
The action begins at 11am on all three days.
