Shropshire cricket stars primed for tough challenge
Wednesday 6th July 2011, 7:00PM BST.
Shropshire’s cricketers face their annual Resource Bank Challenge at Wrekin College tomorrow – against a strong invitational XI.
While there are no outstanding household names in the Invitation line-up, several players with First Class experience will provide the opposition for last year’s Minor Counties Trophy winners.
Leicestershire’s Kadeer Ali, Kent’s Neil Saker and Bilal Shafayat – who combines playing for Northamptonshire with being club professional at Wellington – all feature, as does former Shropshire batsman Atiq-ur-Rehman, who has played CB40 cricket for the Unicorns.
And the side will be bolstered by host of club overseas professionals including Wellington’s Simon Kh-omari, Shifnal’s Chris Brabazon and New Zealander Neal Parlane who plays with Shropshire professional Chris Murtagh for Reigate in Surrey.
Big hitting opener Dan Rees, who had a stint at Shrewsbury, is also named in the team.
Shropshire have named a strong squad for a day which will include two Twenty20 matches with a combined aggregate.
“It should be a good day’s cricket.” said captain Ed Foster. “It’s a game we are looking forward to and one we want to win.”
A huge hospitality tent guarantees a bumper crowd while entry is £5.
