Wellington Cricket Club have been rocked by the loss of professional Bilal Shafayat – for the time being at least, writes JAMES GARRISON.

Shafayat has been registered with Northamptonshire for their Twenty20 matches at home to Derbyshire tonight and at Nottinghamshire tomorrow.

The top order batsman has previously had a stint at Northants during a First Class career which spanned 120 games and saw him average 30 before being released by Nottinghamshire at the end of last season.

He will miss Wellington’s Birmingham League premier division trip to Wolverhampton tomorrow, where he was due to captain the side in the absence of regular skipper Anthony O’Connor and his stand-in Wendell Wagner.
