Ed Foster praises Shropshire’s Minor Counties start

Shropshire cricket captain Ed Foster believes their dramatic winning start to the Minor Counties Championship season will serve as inspiration for the year ahead, writes CHRIS HUDSON.

Foster’s side produced a brilliant run chase to defeat Wales by five wickets in a rain-affected Western Division clash at Pontarddulais yesterday.

With the match reduced to a one-innings, one-day shoot-out they collected just 12 points for their victory rather than the usual 24.

But Foster was still beaming as he looked ahead to another big match on Sunday – the MCCA Trophy quarter-final with Cambridgeshire at Wellington.

“A win’s a win and it’s great to get our championship season off and running,” said Foster.

“We’ll take a good bit of confidence into our game on Sunday and the rest of the season now.

“It’s important that we become hard to beat in this three-day competition,” he added.

“The sides that do well generally don’t lose a game – and if we do that then we are good enough to win our fair share too.”
