Shropshire cricket merger takes another step
Tuesday 7th June 2011, 6:00PM BST.
Plans to merge Shropshire’s two biggest cricket leagues have taken another big step towards reality.
A proposal to combine the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League with the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire League – creating a competition boasting more than 60 clubs – was approved at a meeting of the Shropshire Cricket Board last month.
And it was ratified last night by officials of the Marston’s Premier League – a rubber-stamping vote going through unopposed with 10 votes for and one abstention from Newtown.
“The meeting last night was just to ratify the decision that had already been taken at the Shropshire Cricket Board meeting,” said Marston’s League chairman Mike Robinson.
“A steering group will now be formed to oversee the merger, which will be completed for next season,” he added.
