Shropshire cricketers to face Cambridgeshire
Monday 6th June 2011, 1:10PM BST.
Defending champions Shropshire are preparing to face Cambridgeshire in the last eight of cricket’s MCCA Trophy, writes CHRIS HUDSON.
The county side fell to a defeat at Cumberland in their final Group One game yesterday – but had already secured top spot with victory in their first two games.
And they will now face Cambridgeshire – who beat Suffolk yesterday to seal second place in Group Four – in a quarter-final clash on Sunday, June 19, which they will host at Wellington’s Orleton Park.
“I’ve never played Cambridgeshire before and I don’t know a great deal about them,” said skipper Ed Foster, who led his side to victory over Lincolnshire in last season’s final at Durham’s Riverside ground.
“We won the competition last year and we played a lot of good cricket yesterday, despite the result (a defeat by virtue of the Duckworth/Lewis method), so we’ve got no-one to fear.
“We’ve been playing some very good cricket of late and teams should be fearing us.”
Shropshire are also preparing for the start of their three-day Minor Counties Championship campaign next weekend.
They will open their western division assault against Wales at Pontarddulais on Sunday, with the selectors due to meet tonight to select the squad.
