Former cricket captain James Ralph has handed Shropshire an injury scare.

Ralph suffered a hamstring problem playing for Kidderminster against Wellington in Monday’s Birmingham League premier division clash at Orleton Park,

The key middle order batsman definitely misses Sunday’s MCCA Trophy trip to Cumberland and there will be concern of a longer absence with the first Minor Counties Championship game at Wales and the one-day quarter-final looming in the next fortnight.

“James suffered the injury while he was fielding,” said Shropshire captain Ed Foster.

“It’s certainly something we will monitor.”

Ralph missed last Sunday’s victory over Cheshire through illness but Shropshire make two changes to the team which won that game at Shifnal for the long trip to Kendal to face Cumberland.

Paceman Jonty Mountford is unavailable while allrounder Joe Leach has university commitments.

Bridgnorth’s Tom Weaver – who played one Championship match for Shropshire last season – makes his one-day debut while his club-mate Jack Edwards also features.

Shropshire have already qualified for the Trophy quarter-finals as group winners, guaranteeing a home quarter final on Sunday, June 19.

The Shropshire team is: Ed Foster (captain, Shrewsbury), Jono Whitney, Jack Edwards, Tom Weaver (all Bridgnorth), Chris Murtagh (Reigate), Rob Foster, Tom Cox, Alex Blofield (all Shrewsbury), Anthony Parker (Shifnal), Andy Gray (Alvaston & Boulton), Mark Downes (Wellington).
