Shropshire’s Ed Foster hailed for Minor Counties effort

The “clinical brutality” of Shropshire cricket captain Ed Foster was today hailed after he steered his side to the brink of the quarter-finals of the one-day Minor Counties competition.

Reigning champions Shropshire made it two wins out of two in group one of the round-robin section of the MCCA Trophy by defeating Northumberland by 61 runs in a rain-affected encounter.

The triumph was thanks, in no short measure, to a virtuoso display from captain Ed Foster who made an unbeaten 126 in a match reduced to just 26 overs.

And cricket co-ordinator Terry O’Connor was full of praise for the skipper’s display.

“It was a special innings from a special player,” said a delighted O’Connor.

“It was an exhibition of clinical brutality and he was just totally ruthless.

“I said to the players after the game that they would have to watch cricket for a very long time to see anything better than what Ed produced yesterday.”

Shropshire’s triumph, following on from an opening victory over Staffordshire, leaves them well placed to finish in one of the two qualifying positions in the group.

They are next in action in three weeks time when they entertain Cheshire — who also have a 100 per cent winning record from two matches — at Shifnal on Sunday, May 29.
