Shropshire Senior Cup final gets green light

The on-off Shropshire Senior Cup final between Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford was today given the green light - leaving Market Drayton Town in the lurch.
Shropshire FA chief executive Roy Waterfield confirmed the final will take place at the Greenhous Meadow on April 27 at 7pm.
But Evo Stik League outfit Drayton have been left furious by the move which leaves them excluded from the competition - a week after they were invited to take on Shrewsbury in the final by the Shropshire FA.
That invitation came after Telford claimed they were excluded from the tournament due to their refusal to play a game in April because of their Blue Square Bet North promotion push.
"We are delighted that AFC Telford United have decided to commit to the competition in April," said Waterfield in a statement released today.
"It was a shame that we were unable to schedule it at a more convenient time for both clubs, and we are extremely grateful to the chairmen and managers for the efforts they are making in maintaining the history of Shropshire's senior football competition."
Both sides are likely to field much depleted line-ups as they aim to maintain their respective bids for promotion.

Hmm, tinpot final 1 week before a potenital play off semi final for Telford. Would not liek to see any unnecessary injuries etc. from this match.
What on earth is the problem with holdig it in pre-season. The Shropshire FA muppets really are on a different planet.

Do the Shropshire FA really think Andy Sinton will risk playing his first teamers in this tin pot game.
Anybody really interested in watching Shrewsbury reserves and Telford reserves.
Someone at the association must be held responsible for this farce.

Serves the F.A right for trying to make this a money spinner....
however we should blame drayton for getting to the final a few times,(LOL) as this was never in the plan, therefore forcing the F.A into this new format.... pathetic
Nick
Reserve sides?
I hope Shrewsbury put out the Youth team and Telford do the same.
Utter farce; both teams pushing for promotion/play-offs and this 'sideshow' has to be played.
I hope supporters from both sides boycott that game.

Lewis-Drayton got to the final once. However i do agree with you about the FA. They have made it a farce this week with their stupid decision making and like Nick says i hope everyone boycotts it.

Shropshire FA are a joke i hope that both telford and shrewsbury fans stay well clear of this farce.

i won't be going. the SFA need to understand that people are unhappy with this farce.

Shropshire FA really have lost all credibility forcing the game to be held in the middle of vital games towards play-offs - just look at how any other County FA does it for an easy clue of how to run a competition...
