Wem v Market Drayton for Shropshire Challenge Cup
Tuesday 5th April 2011, 6:30PM BST.
The Shropshire Challenge Cup final will be played next Monday – avoiding a potential player eligibility issue.
Market Drayton and Wem will do battle at the Greenhous Meadow (7pm) for the second biggest prize in Shropshire football.
And that would then clear Drayton’s players to line up for the Shropshire Challenge Cup final later this month.
Players are ineligible for the Challenge Cup once they have played in the Senior Cup – but not vice versa.
Drayton have been invited into the Senior Cup final after AFC Telford claimed they were expelled for refusing to play in April due to their Blue Square North promotion challenge.

This is another case of the Shropshire FA embarrassing itself. Almost every year they have controversy, usually involving Drayton. How can they expect a high quality final when lads have only played 2 days earlier. Market Drayton are OK as they are safe so can rest players, however Wem play Wellington Ams in a massive promotion clash on the saturday.
It really is time for a new structure at the top of shropshire football as the incumbent board only seem to be able to cause problems instead of solving them.
Too many good shropshire clubs are being held back by the old establishment of men in suits.

Why does this have to be played in April? It doesn’t suit any of the clubs involved??
Telford have already been able to withdraw, can the others not too??
