Bangor loss boosts TNS

The New Saints saw their hopes of lifting the Welsh Premier crown receive another boost after closest rivals Bangor City suffered a 2-1 home loss to Prestatyn last night.

The Citizens, who had been level with TNS at the top of the table, played 80 minutes with 10 men following the dismissal of Peter Hoy and bowed to first half goals from Shrewsbury-based forward Steve Rogers and Paul O’Neill.

It means that the Oswestry title chasers – who were 16 points adrift earlier in the season – can go clear should they pick up at least a point at Port Talbot today.

At the other end of the table, Newtown fell three points adrift in the relegation zone after fellow strugglers Bala Town beat Aberystwyth Town 2-1 last night.
