The New Saints’ defender headache goes on

The New Saints may be flying high at the top of the Welsh Premier – but boss Mike Davies has to contend with a string of defensive headaches.

Injuries to Phil Baker and Chris Marriott have again disrupted his plans ahead of tomorrow’s tricky trip to Port Talbot.

“All through the season we’ve had to make changes at the back, I don’t think we’ve had the same defence for two games running,” said Davies.

“But credit to the lads, everyone who has come in has done a fantastic job.”

Baker (hamstring) and Marriott, who took a kick to the leg in Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Llanelli on Tuesday, both face fitness checks while winger Craig Jones is also struggling after a taking a knock to his ribs.

Title rivals Bangor will go top with victory over Prestatyn tonight.
