Crunch talks over future of Shropshire league cricket
Tuesday 22nd March 2011, 11:20AM GMT.
Crunch talks over the future of league cricket in Shropshire are set to be held before the end of March.
The Shropshire Cricket Board are set to stage discussions between officials from the Marston’s Premier League and the feeder FBC Manby Bowdler League.
Marston’s League chiefs have unveiled plans to form a second division from next year and have invited applications from clubs within Shropshire and neighbouring areas.
But that has prompted an angry response from the FBC Manby Bowdler League who fear their clubs could be “poached.”
And the SCB, an administrative body, is now planning to host a meeting between the two leagues in an attempt to forge a way forward.
“We had a request from the FBC Manby Bowdler League at our annual meeting for us to arrange a meeting with themselves and the Marston’s League,” revealed Board chairman Bob Williams.
“We are trying to do that as soon as possible and preferably before the end of this month.”
