The New Saints look for ruthless streak

The New Saints need to recapture their ruthless streak at Park Hall tonight as they bid to ignite their Welsh Premier League title charge against Prestatyn.

Despite being unbeaten in 16 league outings, the defending champions have seen their challenge stall with back-to-back draws against Newtown and Port Talbot.

And boss Mike Davies knows there can be no slip-ups tonight as he looks to trim high-flying Bangor City’s lead to five points in the race for the Championship Conference.

“We need to put points on the board when we can to keep the pressure on leaders Bangor,” he said. “Of course, we’d like to be better placed in the league, but we’re not far away.

“You can’t always play as well as you would like, but at this stage of the season there’s no easy game.

“We’re now playing the top six sides in the league and a lot can still happen. We’ve still got to play Bangor twice while we’ve also got tough games against Neath and Llanelli.”

With Bangor losing last week, the full strength Saints will be desperate to capitalise against a Prestatyn side who were downed 5-2 at Park Hall on the opening night of the season.

However, the Seasiders underlined their worth with a plucky goalless draw in the return at home last October.

With no game last weekend, TNS took a breather as they prepare for a crucial run-in to the season.

  • Dates have now been agreed for the Saints’ two outstanding league fixtures with Llanelli which were postponed last month. The away game at Stebonheath Park has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, March 29 (7.30pm), while the return fixture at Park Hall will be played on Easter Monday, April 25 (2.30pm).
