Shropshire Cricket Board in league row pledge
Thursday 10th March 2011, 7:15PM GMT.
The Shropshire Cricket Board have pledged to mediate in the row between the county’s two biggest leagues – if requested.
Plans to expand the Marston’s Premier League – who have invited applications from teams to join a second division from next year – have produced an angry response from FBC Manby Bowdler League officials.
In a statement, FBC League chairman Ed Nicholas called on the SCB to become involved in talks to merge the two leagues.
Board chairman Bob Williams is reluctant to comment on the best way forward.
But he said: “We have had no official approach from either of the two leagues on this matter.
“But we are in regular contact with them on other matters and if they would like us to become involved, we are quite happy to do so.
“We just want what is best for Shropshire cricket.”
Clubs have until May 16 to apply to join next year’s Marston’s Premier League, whose officials are desperate to reduce the first division from 14 clubs to 12.
But FBC League chiefs claim the proposal, which was first mooted in 2009, is an attempt to “poach” leading clubs from their system.

One County (Shropshire) One Cricket league? Surely that makes sense? or does it?
I have no personal involvement with any club (Although my eldest son plays locally) Therfore I offer an impartial view?
Competition breeds sucess, I am aware that some of the MAJOR clubs in the county play elsewhere? (Bham Leage) that is no different to local Football Clubs and even Bowls clubs, these clubs have moved to aspire to greater sporting challenges and competition?
Competiton is the KEY factor in my mind set, therefore each local club should aspire (From Youth Level Upwards) to produce hungry and succesful sportsmen & women.
Dont dispair at the idea that change will cause upheavel, use the opportunity to hold dialogue and attain the best possible starting position for your own club, use it as a springboad for competetive success, there will always be winners and losers in sporting circles, grasp the opportunity and leave a legacy for your own club too sustain.
Breed success, stop winging

TF7 should be on the Board!
His opinion of 1 County 1 League is far too sensible for the relevant Leagues to accept, they need to talk and make it happen!
I have been involved in Shropshire cricket fo over 30 Years and it’s always been a shambles.
