Heartbreak for Shropshire snooker’s Adrian Gunnell

Shropshire snooker ace Adrian Gunnell has suffered fresh World Championship heartbreak.
The 38-year-old from Telford was edged out 10-9 in a final frame thriller against China’s Liu Song at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield last night.
“I’m disappointed to lose but I have been going through the mill recently in my personal life and there is more to life than snooker,” he said.
“With that in mind I was expecting to get bashed up so it was a miracle I got that close.”
Gunnell looked well placed in the first of three matches he needed to win to reach the Crucible for the first time as he led 5-4 at the halfway stage.
Song took the first five frames last night to move to within the brink of victory before Gunnell staged a spirited fightback to level the scores and force a decider. But Gunnell had no clear chance in the final frame and Song held his nerve.
