Skier Abby Clifford passes her big university test
Thursday 17th February 2011, 5:37PM GMT.
An up-and-coming Shropshire skier was the ‘Best of British’ at the World University Winter Games.
Abby Clifford led the way for the Universities GB team on the slopes of Erzurum in the mountains of eastern Turkey.
The 20-year-old from Ironbridge in Telford was pleased to end up 21st overall in the rankings over the series of four different races – slalom, GS, Super G and Super Combined.
And that meant she was the top placed British male or female over the series against students that are on full time sports scholarships from winter sports countries.
“Abby really enjoyed the whole experience, with over 50 countries at the Games and a range of different events to watch the British squad perform in,” said her mum Paula.
“She is now back up at Leeds University catching up on her studies.
“And she’s waiting to hear if she’s successful with her application to work in a school in Quebec for a year from September as part of her French & Management degree course.”
