Racing was due to resume at Ludlow Racecourse today after frozen ground forced organisers to abandon five meetings in nine weeks.

Bob Davies, clerk of the course, said the weather had been the worst he could remember in 25 years at the track, forcing them to cancel two race meetings in December and three in January.

He said: "The ground is good. It's a little bit soft by the golf club but otherwise it's good. It is cloudy today, but it's mild. It's a decent forecast and we're hoping people will come."
