Steve Jagielka quits Market Drayton Town

Experienced midfielder Steve Jagielka has quit Market Drayton Town after the north Shropshire club cut its playing budget, writes CHRIS HUDSON.
The 32-year-old former Shrewsbury and AFC Telford man was Drayton’s top summer signing as they prepared for their second season in the Evo-Stik League division one south.
But financial restraints have forced the north Shropshire club’s hand in recent weeks and Jagielka, who has his own electrical business, was unable to agree a new deal.
“Like a lot of clubs we’ve had to tighten our belts and unfortunately Steve took the decision that he would prefer to be working at the weekends,” said Drayton manager Simon Line.
“Everyone at the club has taken a little bit of a reduction but Steve has decided that it would be more beneficial to him and his family if he worked on a Saturday.
“We wanted to keep him and we asked him to stick it out for the rest of the season but it wasn’t to be.
“We thank him for what he has done for us,” added Line.
“He is a very good professional and he took on the captain’s role very well.”
