Malven 0 Bridgnorth 2
Monday 10th January 2011, 6:24PM GMT.
Bridgnorth have vital breathing space between themselves and the foot of the Midland Alliance table after a crucial triumph at struggling Malvern.
Two goals from Luke Chapman helped down the Worcestershire side who were reduced to 10 men just before half-time.
“We deserved the win,” said delighted Bridgnorth boss Lee Mills.
“We had six or seven good chances and our keeper Dan Harris only had one save to make.”
Andy Rich and Mike Evans had already gone close before the game’s crucial moment arrived on 44 minutes.
Evans burst clear again and was brought down by the Malvern goalkeeper in the penalty area.
He was dismissed for a professional foul and Chapman, a recent signing from Rocester, fired home from the spot.
With the man advantage, Bridgnorth remained on top after the break and sealed the victory with 12 minutes left, Chapman slotted home a rebound after a shot by the impressive Carl Griffiths had been saved.
The victory moves Bridgnorth up to 17th position in the table.
